Arles and I had a trip planned for a while to Saratoga Springs, NY and decided to go ahead with it. I wasn't going to feel any better here or there so a change of scenery was great. Saratoga is famous for horse racing, it has the oldest track in the US and is the home of the potato chip inventor. Their chips are the most awesome I've ever had and I ate way too many of them. They use a different salt on them and they are amazing. We had seafood that was fabulous and ate breads and pastries that you just don't find here. We stayed in a home with friends, Gilbert & Mary Jane Smith. People move out of their homes for 6 weeks during race season and rent them out for great income. They are comfy, cozy and are all old architecture. History has it that the Vanderbilt family from New York City owned the railroad and started the resort area in the 1900's so that people would ride their train to the country for weekends and built resort homes there. It is an amazing place. Lake George is 40 minutes away and what a beautiful site that is. The Adonorac Mountains back up the lake and of course, that is where the original chairs and furniture are from. What a trip it was. The horses must win here (and 5 other places) to get an entry into the Kentucky Derby, the biggest race of all. I am terribly allergic to horses I now know so the racing was hard on my asthma and the auction was even worse, but seeing the animals that close and going to a race daily was great. Arles said he loved it but likened it to playing golf! Ha. He doesn't like golf. It's great to do once in your lifetime, but we probably won't be getting into horse racing too much. What beautiful country southern New York is. You should all visit sometime. Enjoy photos.
