Making the most of every day....
Arles and I are going out of town for a few days and that meant a trip to the local drug store for travel things. While I was checking out, a young lady, probably about 20-25 was the cashier and she started talking to me about my hair. It is now blonde on top instead of black. She wanted to know who does it, etc., etc. I told her that I used to have black hair but at 50, my grey was so bad I had to go lighter to hide it. She said she was shocked I was 50, that I certainly didn't look it, I was stylish, had on cute clothes, my makeup was perfect and so on. I absolutely appreciated the compliments and would welcome them anytime. At the end of the complimentary conversation, she said "You must not be worrier!". I told her that she was right, I am not. It seems her grandmother told her years ago that worrying aged a person faster than anything else on earth and that she needed to start at a young age to learn not to stress. I found this young woman fascinating. It seems she is going through something very stressful in her life right now and wanted to know from a stranger how to "not worry" herself old. I confessed to her that earlier in my life I probably worried more than I would ever do now. I also told her about God, and about the fact that I wanted to stand before Him someday and tell Him that I used the time He gave me wisely; and that, with trust in my God, I didn't need to worry and stress, that I just have to realize that this is the only day that I am guaranteed and if I waste it, I've lost the only chance I have in my lifetime to do something positive and constructive whether it be for God, for myself or for the others in my life. We talked about five minutes and I can honestly say that she thanked me for taking the time to talk with her, that she had a different perspective on things now and that she was going to put some of my advice (learned from my own personal life lessons) to good use in her own life and try to turn herself around. NEVER, EVER think for a second that meeting someone is a coincidence. God puts us in a position to minister to the needs of others many, many times a day, we just sometimes fail to recognize His calling. I thank Him that today, I recognized His reason for having me drive to a drug store that was miles away from my usual one. I even remember as I was driving there asking myself "Why am I going to CVS? Can't I get what I need at Walgreens?" So, there you have it, it's all in God's hands. I just thank Him for allowing me to be the light in this young woman's day. I was greatly blessed for the opportunity to witness for our Lord. Do yourself a big favor, open your eyes wide so that you don't miss His direction and opportunities for your life. I can't imagine how many I've missed myself over the past 50 years. God Bless you all and have a beautiful summer....
